The Ultimate Guide to Port Lavaca Fishing
When you're not on the job, you're going to need something to do to keep you entertained. One of our guests' favorite attractions nearby is the fishing scene. When you stay at Sweetwater Campgrounds, you are only a few minutes away from several major fishing spots.
We'll cover the most convenient places to fish and show off some useful fishing resources on offer in Port Lavaca so you can make the most of the off-hours you have.
Texas Fishing License
Before you start your fishing trip, you need to make sure you have a fishing license. Luckily, it's incredibly easy to buy one online.
Cost
Texas Resident All-Water: $40
Texas Resident Saltwater: $35
Texas Resident Freshwater: $30
Sweetwater Campgrounds Pond
Starting close to home, we have a pond onsite that is perfect for trout fishing. You don't even need to leave our campsite to have a fulfilling fishing experience.
Our property sits on over 20 acres, so you can sit back with your pole in the water, soaking in the natural environment after a long day at the factory. We restock the pond as needed, so if you love fishing, you could stay near the water for hours without getting bored.
Port Lavaca Fishing Pier
If you want to see more of Port Lavaca's natural beauty, heading to Fishing Pier Park in town could be the way to experience it. You can cast your line off the pier to catch freshwater and saltwater fish alike, and you can also explore the Port Lavaca Bird Sanctuary all with no charge.
The small fishing pier has no shortage of fish willing to bite, and offers a nice cleaning station to take care of your catches.
Lavaca Bay & Magnolia Beach Fishing
No private charters will take you into Lavaca Bay itself, leaving you with two options: shore fishing or using your own personal watercraft. Twenty minutes north of our campground you'll find a boat launch that is adored by the locals who like to fish Lavaca Bay.
Fifteen minutes east of our campground lies Magnolia Beach, a town that has several boat launches and a couple of short piers. If you bring a boat, these two locations can make for the perfect day of fishing.
Port O'Connor Fishing Charters
Guests who want to deep sea fish without the hassle of bringing a boat need to check out the fishing charters in the area. Port O'Conner is the hub for all charters as it overlooks the Gulf of Mexico.
A dozen or so charters are willing to offer their services, and vary in cost depending on how long you want to fish, what fish you want to catch, and how many people you want to fish with. Salty Peters Guide Service and All Waters Fishing Guide are some of our favorites, but you can find a list of all the fishing charters here.
